Sport Pilot License

The Sport Pilot license is great for recreational flying. Lower training requirements save on time and money although more restrictions apply vs. the Private Pilot?s license.

*Currently Apopka Aviation is working together with First Landings who is supplying the light sport aircraft. Costs may vary according to First Landings' pricing. Feel free to contact us if you have any question or would like more information.

Eligibility

  • Be at least 17 years old
  • Able to read, speak, and write English
  • Pass Knowledge Test
  • Pass Practical Flight Test
  • Medical is not required

Privileges

  • Able to fly only LSA aircraft (Light Sport Aircraft- 2 people, gross takeoff weight less than 1320 LBS).
  • Flight is restricted in some controlled airspace without special endorsements.
  • Flight outside United States is restricted without special authorization.
  • More restrictions apply.

Aeronautical Experience, Knowledge, and Materials

*At this time we do not have a LSA aircraft available however we still can conduct

 training for the Sport Pilots License
  • For Airplane, Single-Engine, and Land:
  • 22 hrs Flight time (In supplied aircraft) 
  • $525.00?15 hrs Flight Training ($35.00/hr Instructor)
  • $525.00?15 hrs Ground Training ($35.00/hr Instructor)
  • $250.00?Books/Publications
  • $150.00?Headset
  • $80.00?Written Test Fee
  • $400.00?Flight Exam/Practical Test
  • Total $1,930 (without rental aircraft)

*These costs are approximations and minimums required by the FAA to obtain the certificate. Everyone requires different amounts of time to complete the license but it is very common for students to exceed 25% the time and funds listed above.
